Twist is a Cape based company specialising in event catering and slow cooked convenience foods. The key to our success is in our ingredients. With a strong belief in fresh seasonal organic produce, ingredients are locally sourced and often personally picked to ensure optimal taste and nutritional value. We pride ourselves in knowing where most if not all of our fresh produce comes from - this is very important to us as we have seen the conditions of large scale industrial farming.
Background
Twist was founded in 2007 by Chef Johan van Schalkwyk after a decision to leave restaurant kitchens and go into business for himself. The bulk of his career has seen him run kitchens on some of South Africa's top wine estates, giving him invaluable food and wine pairing experience. Johan also did a stint at a chateau in Normandy, where he had access to an organic produce garden. This, coupled with the inherent belief in the importance of knowing where your food comes from, has moulded his philosophy that only the freshest seasonal and organic ingredients must be used. Being based in Wellington allows Johan the opportunity to source the best local ingredients from this abundant valley.
In November 2010, Johan launched The Stone Kitchen restaurant.
