for people who care about what they eat
"I think this pretty much sums up our feelings....As food lovers, for our destination wedding we wanted nothing more than a great meal with our family and friends. What we ended up with was nothing short of spectacular. Johan listened carefully to what we wanted to achieve and produced a five course degustation menu plus canapés that showcased the magnificent produce of South Africa and his exceptional skill. He lovingly crafted each element and so generously shared his passion by introducing each course, walking through the ingredients and preparation methods and then topped it all off with individually matched SA wines. Every morsel was sublime and Johan left both us and our guests with long lasting memories. Over the course of our stay in South Africa, we had the pleasure of eating in some of South Africa's finest and top rated restaurants including one highly rated on the world stage, all were worthy of the trip.... Johan trumped them all before we even made it to dessert." [Anne Doran]
"The Breytenbach Centre presents a variety of events per month - from informal story telling evenings around fires to stylish openings of arts exhibitions and therefore we need a very creative caterer who can complement the specific feel of the event. We have actually found way more in chef Johan van Schalkwyk and the Twist team than in a 'normal' caterer. These people are very enthusiastic about their clients and their menu, and Johan always comes up with brilliant ideas of how to contribute to the soul of an event by making really innovative foods and serving it in a creative manner." [Theo Kemp - Managing Director Breytenbach Centre]
"As a small advertising agency, our employees often put in long hours beyond the call of duty. So we wanted to say thank you by treating them to something rather special. But rather special doesn't cover what Johan prepared for us at the St James Villa. Our staff were greeted by a long sixteen seater dining room table, resplendent with silver cutlery. What followed can only be described as a seafood extravaganza - Fresh West Coast Oysters with Bloody Mary Jelly, Grilled Calamari and Trio of Melon Salad, Prawn Skewers with Roasted Red Pepper Aoli, Black Mussel and Spicy Tomato Cous-cous, Linefish, Roasted Fennel Bulb and Feta, and finally, West Coast Crayfish served with Grapefruit Hollandaise Sauce. To say our staff felt spoilt by Uli's culinary delights is an understatement. I'm just not sure how we're going to top it this year." [Justin Gomes - Creative Director, FoxP2 (Advertising Agency of the Year 2008)]
"Wow. What a rarity to find convenience food which is organic, tasty, nutritious and without the many additives one has come to expect from such foods. As an added bonus it can even be prepared by bachelors with no aptitude for cooking." [Richard Sayess]
"It is such a pleasure taking a delicious, healthy Twist meal out of the freezer on those evenings that i don't have time or energy to cook. They're not only a hit with the adults but the kids as well." [Diane Smart]
"During the filming of The Northern Cape Race, we travelled the Northern Cape during the hottest time of the year with temperatures often in the 40's. For 3 weeks Johan had to make do with makeshift kitchens and facilities which sometimes amounted to a mere working surface and a braai area. His base was the back of a bakkie. In spite of this, he still came up with delicious, satisfying meals for 63 hungry crew and contestants every day. His menus were innovative and original and on most days he had to wait and see what was available in the small and remote towns where we stayed, before he could plan the menu for the day. His meals were always something to look forward to at the end of a long and hard day's travel and shooting. He was always prepared to go the extra mile and was an absolute pleasure to have on the shoot... en dan is hy nog so blerrie cute ook!" [Elmarie Smit - Producer/Director Northern Cape Race]
